TransRockies – Day 2

Today was just about getting up to Hope Pass and then letting it rip the 8 miles or so down to the finish.  That was somewhat of a loose plan after we made sure we could get  running from the started about 2K down the road from the climb.  Chris was feeling much better this morning and considering his condition yesterday it was an amazing transformation to have him running today.  I got all but total crap sleep but it was our first night in the tents and we got …

TransRockies – Day 1

Well, we were off to a good start this morning after another solid feeding from the staff (the food here is good!) and it was a fast start at that.  The day opened on Main Street in Buena Vista with about a half mile before we crossed a bridge and then funneled into some single track.  The fast road and looming single file single track that lay ahead caused the craze of a triathlon swim start but without the water, body contact or bubbles.  Okay, not exactly the swim start …

Made it out back to Colorado and the through the first stage of adventure travel.  After getting up at 5am, my flight to Denver was uneventful.  Traveling without a bike box and loads of gear is easy!  However, once I got on the ground, I was put on the wrong shuttle and to make a very long day and long story short was stuck in Vail for the night…until a very nice stranger gave me a lift the extra 75 miles past Leadville and into Buena Vista.  14+ hours of …

Run Camp

You probably already gleamed an eye over the image below.  Yep.  Last week I got an invite to go participate in this years TransRockies Run and it took some careful consideration but I knew all along it was just the sort of last minute whacky thing a guy like me needs for an epic run camp.  My swimming is better than ever and after a 5 mile open water swim race and fast Nova masters session today I am confident my swimming is better than ever and okay to be …

Vineman Ironman Race Report

This past weekend I got to participate in my third Ironman race and my first one day triathlon since Kona last year.  A lot has changed for me since then on a personal level and I also took a  different approach to this Ironman race.  At the last two IM’s and even at Ultraman, I questioned if I was holding back too much.  Sure, I was able to build into the race and there is no question I was up against the ropes giving it my all during each race …

This past week I had a lot of time behind the windshield.  Not stoked about it but it gave me a lot of time to think and like a long ride sorted me out.  Traveling can suck but I sure like to go places.  Tuesday, I left Boulder and headed for home just in time to pick up Mike at LAX and get out to Moniques parents for the Angeles Crest 100 this last weekend.  As much as time was standing still and moving faster than ever at the same time(can …

I have had some significant changes in my life over the last six months and until recently have been very busy.  Trying to close out projects at work while packing in some great training camps this year, a move along with some international adventure races makes for some stressful weeks to back up.
Big week training and big week life stress are all the same to our bodies and combining them is not always the best idea… This lead me to the idea for this post in outlining some of the …

Sardinia Surprise

If you read my race report from the Tantauco experience, you will know how much I like getting into adventure and exploring relationships.  You may also remember the Italian team we ran with on the last day.  Cool guys and it added a lot of good to the experience as cool people always do.  There is just something about the combination of these people, some amazing places and an overwhelming challenge that just makes the goal complete for me.
Before I even got …

March – Peaking for Patagonia

After a solid start in January and sorting things out in February, I started to reach a peak in March.  The Endurance Corner camp started at the end of February and Max and I got to spend some quality time on the road out to Scottsdale again to see Trevor and start our fatigue early before we got to Arizona for the camp.

My running was better than ever at this point and the camp was built around cycling so I started to fill in the consistency in riding …

TER Report: Days 3 & 4 – The Negative Split

After two days the obvious physical fatigue was starting to set in on all the teams.  We were almost at the halfway point but we knew better to think it was going to get any easier.   Mentally, this was the day to break the competitors.  It started a shift in ratio to the muscle and battle between the ears.  The race was staged so that the first two days on foot were slow and strength orientated.  Just the sort of stuff to tire you out.  Most of the time …
