Race day and race day fitness is always an interesting time…Ideally, we are all looking for that window on race day where it all comes together. A peaked physical body that is rested and ready to deliver what your mind can make it do… The training is all about getting your “form” ready to go the distance at the fastest pace possible and follow the execution plan. It is all part of the fun and when it “works” PR’s are a natural result and expectations are …

In trying something new with crash cycles I perhaps took it a bit too far…. I have been sick the last couple of days and my race at Big Bear this weekend proved my overloaded training was a success in nuking myself. Good times!
The Big Bear Shootout #1 on Sunday was my first cross country race and I did have a great time seeing so many friends out in the hills and hanging out to celebrate Karen 21st BDay after the race. Monique and I were …

Last Saturday, I got to participate in my first ever XTERRA regional event, the SE CUP in Pelham Alabama and I learned a lot, had a lot of fun and I know it will not be my last. I was set to race the West CUP in Vegas but we had a wedding to attend on the same day and so I started looking for another CUP race that I could give a go this year…. I had some frequent flyer miles and Marriott reward points burning a …

Did you see this? Guess that means I just need three solid races and Monique and I already have one in our region so we should be set. Maybe we can get more people out for the Tahoe race now. . . ?
2009 XTERRA POINT SERIES RULE REVERSAL FOR AGE GROUPERS
Aloha from XTERRA HQ in Hawaii,
We are writing with word of a fundamental rule change. It turns out we picked the wrong year to mandate that amateurs count two races in their …

Last weekend Monique and I headed north again to Livermore for a nice weekend in the hills and our second Xterra race of the year. The Del Valle park is a true gem and I only wish it was closer to home! The Big Blue team was hosting an adventure race on Saturday and we arrived in time to watch some of the action. What a great place for an AR! It was already heating up in the hills and it would prove to …

I had about ZERO expectations going into my first half ironman and I am so stoked that I did…I really enjoyed and “took it all in” throughout the day and I can see why so many people call it the “perfect distance”. Long enough to enjoy each discipline, short enough to recover and race often and if you have the proper volume going into it you CAN actually “race” the distance. I had a blast!
The swim was nice and warm and despite getting my goggles knocked off it was …

The first Xterra and triathlon of the year was sure to prove a few things…early season cold water and a humbling highlight to any weakness that I have been slacking on in the past few months. The first race is also a great reminder of just how much love there is for racing in the dirt. Its Xterra time!
There are only about 2 or 3 races I have done three times in my three years of racing and I am stoked to say that the Xterra REAL is …

Driving back from Folsom the txt messages were flying around…Then Sean hit the key word for the weekend…. PodiumFest!! I don’t know if I have ever had a weekend where I knew more people on the podium… The 2nd US CUP at Fontana this weekend, the time trial, and the first Xterra of the year landed over a dozen of our friends on a podium.
Full race report from the Folsom Xterra on the way but Monique, Eric and I made the podium. Congrats to Paul & Karen, …

I have had a crazy schedule since race day and I am just getting back to my hotel in San Francisco. Following up the Vision Quest with my “recovery ride” and then jumping on a plane this morning was not the best recovery protocol but I am still so pumped up from the race that I can’t sleep anyways. Ha!
It was an exciting race this year but can honestly say after three years of racing the Vision Quest that each experience was just as challenging and rewarding. That is one thing …

The last few days have been pretty crazy for me…Life stress I guess. I had a few blows financially in the last few days and I am just trying to roll it over to some goodness. . he he.. I am stoked that my foot is 100% and I am totally rested. Taper? I am not sure but I have done very little in the last couple of weeks as far as training. Sometimes life just gets in the way ;-)
This will be my …
