As I mentioned in my last post, the Los Cabos Ironman has been one of the smoothest races I have been able to be a part of and perhaps the only race that I was already planning to attend the following year before we even got to the starting line.  I tried to put some useful info in that post since it was a first year race and hopefully we will see you down there next year too!
I had a lot of questions about going into this race with my recent …

I was stoked to be able to chat (via email) with Collin from Triple Threat Triathlon and get some unique questions for an interview and learn more about TTT.
Here is the interview if you want to check it out on their blog  http://triplethreattriathlon.blogspot.com/2013/03/slater-fletcher-dream-crushing-at-its.html

Collin asked for a couple photos so I sent him some race pics from Panama and said he could pull some down from facebook if he wanted more.  I was cracking up when I saw some of the pictures below but it brought back some good memories.  I …

Ironman Pamama 70.3 Race Report

Kicking off 2013 racing with a good hard race!  Panama 70.3 did not disappoint and after the travel home I am glad this will be the hottest, furthest and most “questionable” race of the year for me.
I had a couple main reasons I wanted to spend the 10+ hr of travel to get to the starting line.  A) I wanted to RACE!  Racing is fun.  B) I wanted to get a hard race under my belt to start the year off and something before Cabo – Not many options fit that category …

Triathlon Time!

After taking time away and running on trails for the last year or so i have had a burning desire to get out and swim, bike and run my way to a new level.
The last couple weekends I was able to jump into two local triathlons and it reminded me why I love racing so much.  After doing so many races over the last few years I got into a train_to_train in 2011 and in so doing only raced a single triathlon in all of 2011.  Boo!  As I recently told my …

The Wonderland Trail

Last month, I was fortunate enough to join Crew My Run and some friends for a 3 day running trip around Mt. Rainier in Washington on the Wonderland Trail.  What is Wonderland Trail you ask?  I had that same question just a few week prior to the trip and it did not take much research for me to realize this was a trip that I had to find a way to make.  Its a beautiful place and some of the best trails I have ever had the pleasure of running.  Hopefully this gets you …

Just as I finished and celebrated my first run block of the year with the Zion 100, I happened to find the Tahoe Sierra 100 race to celebrate my first block of the year back on the bike.  After making the rounds and getting a NEW BIKE I could not think of a better way to rip my legs off this weekend.

The TS100 is what I would consider a “real deal” race.  It is a point to point race in the mountains over technical single track trails with loads of climbing (~17,000-18,000ft) …

The last four weekends I have found myself deep into work again on the weekdays and in Big Bear on the weekends exploring trails, laughing it up with some of my friends I consider family and just training as I feel like it. Basically, living the dream!

I did not plan on being up there for any of the weekends except for the weekend of Holcomb Valley and that weekend did not turn out like I thought at all.  That is where the learning comes in….  Here is how it went …

TransRockies Finish

Its been a long week but the trails keep getting better. . .   At every stage we continue to find different types of trails, views and challenges but the finish had some of my favorites all week.  Sick single track through the aspen trees heading out of Vail Resort and over the mountains to Beaver Creek, the challenge of dragging a week load of miles and getting lost just enough to score an ultramarathon for the day and wrap up 20K of climbing for the week. Good times.

making the …

TransRockies – Day 5

The last couple of days we have been at Camp Hale with no cell or internet access.  It has been quite nice actually not having to move camp for a night left and it left us some extra “free time” that we needed…but somehow still filled.  A lot changed over the last couple days and I will tap out a post about it but basically we had a solid run from Leadville on day 3 and I sat out the run yesterday and ended up going for a ride on …

TransRockies – Day 2

Today was just about getting up to Hope Pass and then letting it rip the 8 miles or so down to the finish.  That was somewhat of a loose plan after we made sure we could get  running from the started about 2K down the road from the climb.  Chris was feeling much better this morning and considering his condition yesterday it was an amazing transformation to have him running today.  I got all but total crap sleep but it was our first night in the tents and we got …
