Zion 100 Race Report

This race report is long enough so I will jump right into it.   It was a long day and I want to remember all of it so I hope you will grab a cup of coffee and hopefully find something useful or entertaining.  Thanks for reading!
As I mentioned in my previous post, my road to Zion has been a great experience and the actual event was no different.  I had the dream team for support so I was more relaxed and rested going into this race than I think I …

The Road To Zion

I have not posted in a while and mostly because I have been pretty busy with a new job but also from a change of pace and reflection.   This post is as much for me to get my thoughts organized and up to date as it is to bring in the new challenge on the road to Zion.
Over last few years, I have been increasing a lot of my focus, time and energy into going faster or longer in sport.  I feel blessed to be able to have the support around me from …

long weekend and a change of venue for us this time around. With plans all_over_the_map (literally) we decided to stay home, sleep lots and eat really good food. Not much else to complicate things. Getting to spend time with some old friends, make new plans and dream big dreams…all in a good long weekend.
We kicked it off with some bluesails boat time.

Hope you had a fun weekend and are ready for the last few days of summer

TransRockies Finish

Its been a long week but the trails keep getting better. . .   At every stage we continue to find different types of trails, views and challenges but the finish had some of my favorites all week.  Sick single track through the aspen trees heading out of Vail Resort and over the mountains to Beaver Creek, the challenge of dragging a week load of miles and getting lost just enough to score an ultramarathon for the day and wrap up 20K of climbing for the week. Good times.

TransRockies – Day 5

The last couple of days we have been at Camp Hale with no cell or internet access.  It has been quite nice actually not having to move camp for a night left and it left us some extra “free time” that we needed…but somehow still filled.  A lot changed over the last couple days and I will tap out a post about it but basically we had a solid run from Leadville on day 3 and I sat out the run yesterday and ended up going for a ride on …

TransRockies – Day 2

Today was just about getting up to Hope Pass and then letting it rip the 8 miles or so down to the finish.  That was somewhat of a loose plan after we made sure we could get  running from the started about 2K down the road from the climb.  Chris was feeling much better this morning and considering his condition yesterday it was an amazing transformation to have him running today.  I got all but total crap sleep but it was our first night in the tents and we got …

TransRockies – Day 1

Well, we were off to a good start this morning after another solid feeding from the staff (the food here is good!) and it was a fast start at that.  The day opened on Main Street in Buena Vista with about a half mile before we crossed a bridge and then funneled into some single track.  The fast road and looming single file single track that lay ahead caused the craze of a triathlon swim start but without the water, body contact or bubbles.  Okay, not exactly the swim start …

Made it out back to Colorado and the through the first stage of adventure travel.  After getting up at 5am, my flight to Denver was uneventful.  Traveling without a bike box and loads of gear is easy!  However, once I got on the ground, I was put on the wrong shuttle and to make a very long day and long story short was stuck in Vail for the night…until a very nice stranger gave me a lift the extra 75 miles past Leadville and into Buena Vista.  14+ hours of …

Run Camp

You probably already gleamed an eye over the image below.  Yep.  Last week I got an invite to go participate in this years TransRockies Run and it took some careful consideration but I knew all along it was just the sort of last minute whacky thing a guy like me needs for an epic run camp.  My swimming is better than ever and after a 5 mile open water swim race and fast Nova masters session today I am confident my swimming is better than ever and okay to be …

home base

The last couple weeks at HOME have been outstanding for me.  Getting to unload from the training block in Boulder and Vineman has given me time to catch up on life stuff, work, rest and friends.  These are the moments I want to remember.  Good times with good friends and good food.  Simple!
